2.4 S Targa
911 2,4S TARGA
Interior
The interior is trimmed in black and fitted with factory black leather comfort seats, a desirable option within the 911 S range. This configuration reflects a higher-specification touring setup while maintaining period-correct materials and finish.

Engine and Transmission
The 2.4 S is powered by the 2,341 cc air-cooled flat-six equipped with Bosch mechanical fuel injection (MFI), producing 190 horsepower at 6,500 rpm — the highest output in the 1972 911 lineup. The red engine shroud denotes the “S” specification.
For 1972, the model is paired with the newly introduced Type 915 five-speed manual gearbox, engineered to manage the increased torque of the 2.4-liter engine and marking a key mechanical transition in early 911 development.

Did you know ?
The external oil filler flap (“Ölklappe”) was introduced in 1972 only because Porsche moved the oil tank in front of the rear wheel to improve weight distribution.
Many drivers unfamiliar with the car mistook the oil flap for a fuel filler and accidentally poured gasoline into the oil tank. Because of this confusion, Porsche removed the feature after only one year.
